What system does the UAE courts based on?
The UAE courts are based on the shari’ah aspects of the Islamic religion and to some extent to the civil law system which is similar to that of Egypt, Spain, France and most of the Latin American countries.
In the United Arab Emirates, everything in front of the UAE courts takes place in the Arabic language. Therefore, any kind of contract, agreement, document in English or any other language has to be translated into the Arabic language by a translator registered with the ministry of justice.
With regard to the lawyers, only nationals of the United Arab Emirates/ Emirati citizens have the right to represent people before the UAE courts, they shall be registered with the courts and shall have the right of audience to represent people before the UAE courts.
